Graphics 11 Font Design Posters.

Students in my Graphic Design class were asked to design their own font.  After a rigourous study of typography, they used Fontstruct, an online font design app, to construct their original designs.  The fonts are downloadable and usable on any app.  These posters were created to display their creations.  so cool!  Make sure you "read more" to see more amazing work.

GRAPHICS 11 - LOGOS

Letterform logos developed from a rigourous process.  This is the big leap in grade 11: the emphasis on process becomes far more important.  hand-drawn designs are brought into illustrator, refined, live-traced and coloured.

GRAPHICS 11 - Pictograms

PICTOGRAMS - A project in which students explore the idea of imagery as a utilitarian communication device - filtered through the lens of "Ridiculous Rules".  Students begin to use Adobe Illustrator, learning about the shape-builder tool.

Graphics 11: Lyrical Layouts

Lyrical Layouts is a poster design project that asks students to work with grid-based compositions and work with Visual Hierarchy to create a graphic interpretation of their favourite song.  They used Indesign to compose their layouts.  I love this assignment.  It allows for a ton of creative freedom but touches on a bunch of design points that we have covered in other assignments.

Graphics 11: Paper Words

This a really quick easy assignment, asking students to explore paper as a material and different construction methods.  I always tell students, when given a problem, to solve it the most creative way they can; find a solution that is surprising and original and different from anyone else's.  I think this is generally a good way to approach any design problem.

Graphics 11: Lego Alphabet

Recently brought in a bunch of Lego and have had a ton of fun incorporating it into various courses. Here, a senior design class uses it to design and construct assigned letterforms.  The challenge here was to construct a free standing 3-dimensional letterform that contained a specific colour scheme and used the construction method as creatively as possible.  I love these, although some of the photography is whack - my fault...
